Vastu for Your Shop: Changes That Attract Customers
Your shop's energy affects everything from how customers feel when they walk in, to how confidently you handle transactions, to whether people return. Vastu for commercial shops isn't about superstition — it's about understanding how spatial arrangement, direction, and energy flow influence the experience of everyone inside.
Entry Direction: Where Customers Come From
A North or East-facing shop entrance is considered most auspicious for business growth. North is the direction of Kuber — the deity of wealth — and an entrance that faces North draws in prosperity energy. East brings in the fresh, active energy of the morning sun. Both directions support footfall and positive customer energy.
If your shop entrance faces West, it's generally acceptable. South-facing entrances are more challenging — they require specific remedies and careful layout management. But a South-facing entrance doesn't doom a shop; I've worked with shops in South-facing positions that have done very well once the internal layout was corrected.
Cash Counter Placement
This is one of the highest-impact placements in any shop. The cash counter should be in the South or South-West zone of the shop, with the owner sitting behind it facing North or East. Facing North while handling cash means you're oriented toward the wealth direction — the energy of financial transactions flows in the right direction.
Never position the cash counter so that its back is to the entrance. When a customer walks in and the counter is turned away from them, it creates an energy of inattention. Practically, it also means the owner can't see who's entering — and energetically, it blocks the welcome. The counter should always have a clear line of sight to the door.

Display Zones and Spiritual Touches
Product display is best placed on the North and East walls of the shop — these are the visibility zones, the directions that draw positive attention and energy. Heavy storage (stock room, back inventory) belongs in the South or West.
Keep the entrance completely clear of clutter. Nothing should feel cramped or tight when a customer first walks in — this is the first energy impression of your business. A welcoming, open entrance sets the tone for the entire transaction.
A small Ganesh or Lakshmi idol placed in the NE corner of the shop near the entrance is a very standard Vastu recommendation and one that carries genuine symbolic and energetic weight. Keep it clean, well-lit, and at eye level. Don't place it on the floor or in a cluttered corner.
Good lighting across the entire shop is non-negotiable. Dark spots in corners — especially the NE corner — suppress the energy of that zone. The shop should feel bright, active, and welcoming throughout. For a full commercial space assessment, our commercial Vastu consultation covers shop layout analysis in detail.
At Prestigious Vastu, we assess commercial shops with compass-accurate direction mapping — cash counter, display zones, entry energy and spiritual placement.
