Vastu for 3 BHK Flat: Getting Each Room Right
A 3 BHK flat gives you something a 1 or 2 BHK doesn't — the freedom to assign rooms deliberately. And when you do that assignment with Vastu in mind, you're not just following principles for their own sake. You're genuinely creating an environment where each person in the home has the energy support they need.
The Master Bedroom: Always South-West
In a 3 BHK, this is non-negotiable. The master bedroom belongs in the South-West. The SW zone is the heaviest, most stable energy zone in any space — it promotes groundedness, authority, and restful sleep for the head of the household. If this room is being used as a guest room or a child's room, it's worth reconsidering the assignment.
The head of bed in the master should face South. Second choice is West. The person sleeping here should feel like they're sleeping from a position of stability — and properly placed, they will.
Children's Rooms
For the first child's room, the West or North-West zone works well. NW is associated with movement, change, and social activity — it works well for older children or teenagers who are more externally engaged. The West is also good for stable, grounded energy that supports focused study.
For a second child, the East zone is excellent. East is associated with Surya (the sun), growth, learning, and optimism. Children studying for exams or in important academic years benefit greatly from an East bedroom. Have them sit facing East or North while studying.
If you have elderly parents living with you, prioritise them in the SW after the head of household — or if SW isn't available, East. Avoid placing elderly family members in the North bedroom if possible, as North is associated with movement and can contribute to restlessness for those who need stable, settled energy.

Kitchen, Living Room and Other Spaces
The kitchen should be in the South-East — the Agni corner. In most 3BHK layouts, this is a natural position. Cook facing East. If the kitchen is in a different corner, remedies are available without structural changes — primarily about where you position the stove within the kitchen.
The living room works best in the North or North-East area of the flat. This is where guests arrive, conversations happen, and energy enters. Keeping this zone open, well-lit, and free of heavy furniture makes a real difference. Heavy sofas and TV units pushed against the North or East wall block the natural energy flow into your living space.
The pooja room should be in the NE corner — this is universal advice that holds across all flat sizes. If a full room isn't possible, a wall niche in the NE is perfectly fine. What matters is keeping it clean, properly lit, and respected. See our full guide on pooja room Vastu for detailed placement rules.
For guests staying over — the NW room is the ideal guest bedroom. The NW is associated with movement and change, which means people in this room tend not to overstay. For the head of household, that's actually a practical advantage.
